Loquant was founded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2001. That's over a decade of experience with Brazilian Portuguese translations, both on the linguistic side and the operational one. We like to say we have made many mistakes — and learned from them — so you don't have to.
We understand that in order to compete with the growing offers of Machine Translation (MT) services at low to now cost, we can only rely on delivering top quality — something the MT engines still can't do. Have you tried Google Translate and Bing Translate? They are quite impressive, and Enterprise-grade MTs can be even better. Someday they will probably be as good as human translations. But you wouldn't rely solely on MT to launch your product on a new market. That still requires the perception and warmth of gray matter.
Your market is the world. This means big opportunities, but also means you'll have competitors all over the place, some of them well-established in their local markets. So remember that translation is not an overhead, but an intrinsic part of your product development. You need a team that is capable of translating not only words, but your very essence.
But that doesn't really matter. We are in the cloud and just a [phone call, email, sms, voip...] away.
We were one of the first Brazilian LSPs to actively use virtualization to switch between the many different customer configurations needed for our desktops. So the next natural step was to use the power of the cloud to bond our teams.
